GRAYTON BEACH, FL 2018
AIA Merit Award, Interiors, Northwest Florida Chapter 2019
For the interior renovation of Black Bear Bread Co. and The Tap Room we worked with two existing individual cottages in The Shops of Grayton.
We created an outdoor dining area with a light canvas canopy to connect the two businesses. This breezy dining area provides overflow space during hectic morning hours when the line to order often spills out the front door. The elegant interior of Black Bear Bread Co. minimizes the use of color to keep the feel modern, clean and fresh. It also allows customers to focus on the delicious smells of fresh baked bread, pastries and freshly brewed coffee without being overwhelmed by a bold interior.
Next door, we wanted to design a throwback to classic bars and intimate pubs while creating a large feel to a relatively small commercial space. A lounge area with comfortable seating combines seamlessly with a dining area to provide ample seating options when the bar area is full. We used materials like the bronze lamps, mirrored tiles, richly upholstered benches, supple leather chairs and a subtle color scheme to elevate the customer experience as soon as they walk through the door.
While these two businesses/buildings differ greatly in food offerings and customer experience (one is primarily breakfast and lunch, the other evening) the interior design connects them visually and maintains a clean, crisp company esthetic.
